Extention temporary COVID unemployment measure
Posted the 23 July 2020By Royal Decree (AR) of 15 July 2020, temporary COVID unemployment measures have just been formally extended for all companies until 30 August 2020.
By Royal Decree (AR) of 15 July 2020, temporary unemployment due to an Act of God (COVID) has just been formally extended for all companies until 30 August 2020.
More importantly, this same decree already provides for an extension after 31 August 2020 and until 31 December 2020, but only (Article 15) "in companies AND sectors particularly affected by the corona crisis", namely:
- companies experiencing temporary unemployment for several days in the second quarter of 2020 for economic reasons and by an Act of God up to at least 20% of the total number of days reported to the ONSS. Excluded from these criteria are days indicated for unpaid leave, sick leave and maternity and paternity leave.
- sectors whose "economic activity and employment have decreased significantly as a result of emergency measures by the Minister of the Interior to limit the spread of COVID coronavirus." A ministerial decree specifies the sectors concerned, but according to the information available it would be aviation, the events sector, travel agencies, the hospitality industry, the steel and base metals industry, the textile sector, the diamond industry and the printing industry.
